Lubbock, Texas / With three months, three states and 1,300 miles behind him, cancer activist Dustin Hucks will arrive in his hometown Sunday, Nov. 15.
Since Hucks began his journey the 29-year-old athlete has weathered sickness, a low food supply and the loss of a supportive running crew in his quest to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
"It's been an adventure. I wouldn't change a thing about it," says Hucks. "Most of these experiences have been once in a lifetime. I can and have taken a lot of punishment. All totally worth it."
The Lubbock native made his way through big cities and small towns in every type of climate on his way from California. He's camped on the side of highways and in firehouses along the way, and kept his followers informed of his adventures through his blog and an online GPS monitor.
Hucks will arrive home on Nov. 15, a day that will mark Hucks' reunion with his Aunt Debbie, who suffers from Stage Four Lymphoma, a terminal illness. She has tracked her nephew's travels from Los Angeles into Texas on his Web site, www.followtherun.org, where donations to ACS are accepted.
I look forward to taking on these final days and these last experiences before I hang up the pack, said Hucks.
Dustin Hucks is a great on-camera interview, and will be running on the outskirts of Lubbock until Nov. 15.
